Older homes with plaster and lath walls are a different animal. They take more time, more care, and more know-how than knocking out drywall. When you're dealing with that kind of material, the demo phase can make or break the rest of the project - especially if there are original trim pieces and baseboards worth salvaging.

That's exactly what we were working with on this gut demo in Red Cloud. The walls were full plaster over lath, which means heavy, dense material that comes down in chunks. The goal wasn't just to strip the walls - it was to do it without destroying the trim and door casings that still had life in them. That takes intentional work, not just muscle.

We stripped the walls down to the studs across multiple rooms, clearing out the plaster and lath completely while pulling the trim and baseboards intact. When the next crew comes in to frame, insulate, or hang new drywall, they're walking into a clean slate. No surprises, no debris buried in corners, and the original millwork set aside and ready to go back in.

Interior gut demolition done right isn't just about tearing things out fast. It's about reading the space, knowing what stays and what goes, and keeping the project on track for whoever picks up next. Sloppy demo creates headaches downstream - patched trim, lost time, and extra costs nobody planned for. Clean work at this stage keeps all of that from happening.

This kind of selective demo - where we protect what's worth keeping while clearing everything else - is what separates a careful tear-out from just swinging a hammer. Whether it's a single room or a full house gut, the approach stays the same.
